FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Quietmind Foundation, a non-profit research and
educational organization in The IRB was created in response to the demand for
more research supporting the efficacy of complementary and integrative
medicine and in particular the efficacy of EEG biofeedback or
‘neurofeedback’. The scientific literature was only producing a
scant 5-12 papers a year on the subject in the more widely read journals in
the fields related to biofeedback, e.g., Clinical
Neuropsychiatry, Neuropsychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Rehabilitation
Science, Clinical Neurology, etc. Many more papers are produced but
without IRB approval since these authors are often not university-affiliated
professors with free IRB access and support. The IRB will afford these
clinician/researchers and theoreticians the means to compete for publication
in the more popular journals by producing studies that have been
independently monitored and held accountable for maintaining scientific rigor
and integrity. The Quietmind Foundation’s intention is to
raise awareness in the traditional medical community about the growing range
and depth of alternative and integrative healthcare technologies. Many of
these approaches never get the attention they deserve for lack of solid
research supporting their efficacy. The IRB will provide aspiring
clinician/researchers with high-quality consultation and technical support
services to ensure their protocols meet the expectations of the established
peer-reviewed scientific literature. Review panels will be convened utilizing members who
possess the technical and conceptual skills to effectively evaluate each
study in terms of its scientific merit, safety and ethic considerations as to
the treatment of research subjects. Members review the protocols submitted
electronically and then vote on approval via teleconference. Submission criteria details
can be located at: http://quietmindfdn.org/IRB/index.html .
